Automatic analyser for CO, model 9830

Operation theory: The Carbon Monoxide (CO) analyzer 9830 is a photometer in the non-dispersive infrared (NDIR), that uses the Gas Filters Correlation (GFC) in order to measure low concentrations of CO in a safely and reliable way.

The infrared radiation of wide range goes through a wheel of gas filter that contains half of CO and half of Nitrogen.

When the IR radiation passes through the half of the wheel containing CO, all the wave lengths absorbed by the CO are fully removed from the radiation, remaining the wave lengths that are not affected by the CO, giving a reference beam.

When the IR radiation passes through the half of the wheel containing Nitrogen, the wave lengths of specific absorption for CO are not removed from the radiation, giving a measurable beam, which will be dim by the presence of CO in the sample. The rotation of the wheel of gas filter produces a continuous alternative beam of reference and measure.

This batch beam (measure/reference) passes through a multipath absorption chamber (white chamber) where the measure of CO is made through the measure of the measure beam dim.
Due to the fact that both the reference and the measure beam come from the same transmitting source, have the same detector and cover the same optical path, the difference in measure of wave length between the reference and measure phases will only be affected by the CO quantity present in the sample. The measurement methodology gives as a result an instrument strongly insensitive to the interfering gases, fluctuations in the IR emission source, vibration and the tarnish of the optical parts.

The final concentration of CO corrected to changes of temperature and pressure is offered in ppm or milligrams per square meters (mg/m3).

Through the menus the user can configure the equipment and have access to all the options available.

The 9830 analyzer selects automatically the optimal range of measure both in the screen and in the RS-232 interface output. The values are indicated in the floating point mode, which makes unnecessary the selection and indication of the range of measure. The equipment includes a characteristic of analogical over range that, in activated mode, commutes the analogical output of the analyzer to a ranger higher than the previously defined.
